Strategic Investment Advice
How will your investment strategy deliver the objectives of your pension scheme? Are there contingency plans in place if things go better or worse than expected? Are you comfortable with the type of risks being taken to generate the required returns? Are you using all the appropriate risk management tools, including Liability Driven Investment? If you need help on any of these issues then please let me know.
A review of your strategy can highlight key areas to be addressed including:
-
Clarity of long term objectives
-
Consistency of strategy with objectives, funding policy and covenant strength
-
De-risking and/or contingency plans
-
Effectiveness of risk management and hedging assets
-
Implementation of strategy, including level of delegation to third parties
This exercise does not need to be overly complex or detailed, but with my knowledge and experience I can identify any areas that may need to be addressed. If you would like to discuss a suitable scope for your own scheme then please get in touch.
Trustee boards can benefit from a review of their investment beliefs to ensure that their current strategy is being implemented consistently. This face-to-face session will help trustees to express their core investment beliefs that impact on:
-
sources of return to seek and asset classes to invest in
-
policy on interest rate and inflation risk management
-
approach to active and passive management
-
governance requirements, including use of sub-committees
-
delegation of investment management, including fiduciary management
-
approach to environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues.
These sessions can either form part of a regular trustee or investment committee meeting, or form a separate half-day event.
