Professional Trusteeship

What are you looking for in a professional pension scheme trustee? Strong financial and investment expertise? The ability to build relationships with the sponsor and other trustees? A drive to manage the scheme efficiently to deliver benefits in a cost effective way? If so, you have come to the right place.

Most pension funds are best viewed as a partnership between the trustees and the sponsor. Each need the goodwill of the other, and both share the goal of efficient delivery of members' benefits.

However, this relationship does need to be robust enough to manage situations of potential conflict, most particularly in funding discussions.

I have the experience of a wide range of sponsor/trustee situations, and a pragmatic approach that will give you the confidence that your pension fund is in the right hands to best meet the goals of both parties.

Running a pension fund is complicated, with many specialist skills required from actuarial, investment, legal, covenant and administrative disciplines. Trustees need to understand, assess and challenge the advice provided before making important decisions.

Who better, then, to have as a trustee than someone who has spent a career working as or with the various different advisers? Not only can I provide appropriate understanding and challenge, but I can also ensure that co-trustees are equipped to make whatever decisions are required.

Properly managed, a trustee board and their advisers can work together to deliver the best outcomes for the pension fund in an efficient manner.

I can work in a variety of different ways with trustee boards:

  • Professional trustee/director

  • Chair of trustee board

  • Chair of investment committee

  • Co-opted member of investment committee

  • Independent adviser

I am also flexible in the financial arrangements, from an agreed hourly/daily rate to a fixed annual fee.
